Birth Records
The Craven County Register of Deeds has birth records as far back as November of 1913. Some delayed birth certificates may exist before then if that individual came in to get a delayed birth certificate. Before 1913 birth were not really recorded by the government in the same way that they are today. Most families would record births in family Bibles. To search the vital record index Click Here.

Not always, but most of the state vital records organizations can take months to get a certificate whereas most of the local governments are much quicker.
