How to Get a Vital Record Online

2. Select the type of document you want to order.  
3. Fill out the form.  
4. Upload a copy of your unexpired government-issued ID.  
5. Pay for the license and convenience fees online.  
6. You can then come pick them up in person, or we will put them in the mail within 24 hours, and they take an average of 2-4 weeks to ship to you.

How to Get a Vital Record in Person

1. Come into the office @ 226 Pollock Street New Bern NC 28560
2. Bring your unexpired government-issued ID.
3. Pay $10 cash or a small fee with card. Make checks payable to Craven County Register of Deeds

Certified copies are only able to be obtained by  the following:

1. Self
2. Parent/Stepparent
3. Spouse
4. Child/Step Child
5. Brother/Sister
6. Authorized Agent (such as a law firm or court with an ongoing legal interest)
7. Grandchild
8. Grandparent

By Mail

How to Get a Vital Record by Mail

1. Write a letter requesting the certified copy. Be sure to include the full names of all persons on the certificate as well as dates such as date of birth or date of marriage, and sign the letter.
2. Send a good and readable copy of a unexpired government-issued ID.
3. Include $10 cash for each certificate, money order, check, or certified check. Make checks payable to Craven County Register of Deeds
