Board of Commissioners Adopt FY 2025-2026 Budget

The Board of Commissioners adopted the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget, keeping the property tax rate ate 44.48 cents per $100 of assessed value. The budget includes investments in education, public safety, infrastructure, and service provision across 31 departments. 

The total general fund budget is $161 million.

Highlights include:

  • Funding Public Schools - Increased by 9.74% to $25.6 million
  • Funding Craven Community College - $5.1 million
  • Supporting Emergency Medical Services (EMS) - $3.6 million
  • Maintaining 31 County departments
  • Improving County infrastructure including, but not limited to:
    • Ag Extension building renovations
    • West Craven Park ball field lights
    • Creekside Park bathroom renovation
    • New Bern Library Branch improvements

School Funding includes:

  • Operational Support - $25.6 million
  • Capital Improvements & Debt Service - $3.48 million
  • School Resource Officers - $3.1 million
  • Other Support - $106K
    • D.A.R.E. Speaker
    • "Too Good for Drugs" program
    • Partners in Education (P.I.E.)
    • Booster Club match funding
    • NC Symphony
