Clerk of Superior Court Lexanne Huffman swore in Tim Mason as County Commissioner at the November 3, 2025 Board of County Commissioners meeting. Commissioner Mason will represent the District One seat, which became vacant after long-time Commissioner Thomas Mark passed away on September 3, 2025. The Board of Commissioners interviewed candidates on October 15, 2025, and appointed Mason at their work session on October 20, 2025.
“Commissioner Mason brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Board of Commissioners. We are looking forward to working with Commissioner Mason for the people of District One and Craven County,” stated Denny Bucher, Chairman of the Craven County Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Mason moved to Craven County in 2015 after his retirement as a systems analyst for a defense contractor. Mason first retired from the U.S. Army after more than twenty years of service in various capacities, including infantry, logistics, and operations research. He has a bachelor’s degree in history from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in National Security Studies from the U.S. Army War College. Mason is a member and trustee of the Bridgeton Methodist Church. He is married to Patti Mason, who is currently serving on the Craven County Board of Education.
“When selecting a candidate to fill the seat, one thing that stood out for Mr. Mason was his demonstrated leadership experience, especially while serving in the United States Army. Mr. Mason understands the needs of this County and is committed to making our County a better place,” Bucher said.
District One encompasses much of the northern portions of Craven County, including Fairfield Harbour, Bridgeton, and Vanceboro.
Mason will complete the remainder of the unexpired commissioner term, which runs until the first Board of Commissioners meeting in December, scheduled for December 7, 2026. Commissioners serve four-year terms, with the next election taking place on November 3, 2026.
