Voter Cards Mailed Out

Craven County Board of Elections has mailed about 46,000 cards to voters in the county who had a change in their NC House district. The NC House districts for Craven County are District 3 and new District 79. Maps of the new districts can be found on their website under Maps.

  • If you receive the voter card, you are to keep the card unless you need to update your name, address, or party of choice. If you have updates, indicate on the card, and return the card to the Board of Elections. Your signature is required to make updates to your voter record. Only the voter can sign or make their mark if updates are needed. Powers of Attorney nor anyone else cannot sign for a voter.
  • If you receive a card at your address for someone who does not live there, return to the BOE through the mail. If you know the forwarding address, write that on the card as well. The Board of Elections will need to have the card back to make notice that the person has an invalid mailing address.

  • Yes! Voter cards confirm your voter registration, identify your Election Day assigned precinct and voting place, and for what jurisdictions you are eligible to vote.
  • Yes! Voter cards are a proof of residency. For instance, your voter card can be presented at the DMV to obtain the new REAL ID that is just like your traditional license or ID but with a gold star at the top that allows a person to use the ID for Federal Identification. From NCDOT:
    • The NC REAL ID will make it more convenient when you need to board a commercial airplane or visit a military base or other federal facility.
    • Beginning in 2020, federal agencies will enforce tougher security standards at airport check-ins, federal buildings, military installations, and nuclear sites.
