Craven County Assessor’s Office Implements Online Listing for 2020 Personal Property Tax

The Craven County Assessor’s Office has implemented online listing as an option for taxpayers to list their 2020 personal property owned as of January 1, 2020.  Tax listing began January 2, 2020 and must be submitted no later than Friday, January 31, 2020 in order to avoid late listing penalties.  To list personal property through the online system, taxpayers will need to first receive their 2020 Personal Property Tax Listing Form via U.S. Mail.  Tax listing forms were mailed out by the Craven County Assessor’s Office between January 2, 2020 and January 7, 2020.  The 2020 Personal Property Tax Listing Forms mailed to taxpayers will include an Online Record number on the form that will be required to access the online listing form.  Once taxpayers receive their listing forms they can go online to complete their listing at

Craven County taxpayers will still have the option to list their personal property in person at the Craven County Assessor's Office at 226 Pollock St. in New Bern.  The listing office will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  A night depository is located at the right front corner of 226 Pollock St. in New Bern.  Taxpayers may use this box to deposit tax listings and tax payments after office hours.

Completed 2020 Personal Property Tax Listing Forms can also be mailed in via U.S. Mail in the provided return envelope addressed to Craven County’s new return listing service provider at PO Box 985, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

Taxpayers who have taxable property to list and do not receive a form may download one from the Craven County website at and those completed forms can be submitted in person or via U.S. Mail to Craven County Assessor, PO Box 985, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

“Tax payers familiar with the personal property listing forms may notice Craven County has redesigned its Business and Individual Personal Property Forms to adopt the standardized state-wide form currently being used by most other counties in North Carolina,” stated Ronnie Antry, Craven County Tax Administrator.

All persons owning taxable property in Craven County as of January 1, 2020 are required to complete a 2020 Personal Property Tax Listing Form.  Taxable personal property includes mobile homes, boats, boat motors, jet skis, aircraft and all unlicensed (untagged) vehicles, trailers, campers, motorcycles, semi-trailers or trailers registered on a multiyear basis, all income producing personal property including farm machinery, and also any new improvements, additions or deletions to real property.  Tangible personal property owned by an individual nonresident of the State of North Carolina shall be taxable at the place in this State at which the property is situated.

Active duty military members stationed in Craven County who claim a state other than North Carolina and/or a county other than Craven as their home of record, are exempt from personal property tax in Craven County.  A current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) copy must be submitted to the Craven County Tax Office as proof of legal residence; however, a dependent (including spouse) who is non-military may be subject to personal property tax in Craven County.
