Online Gun Permit Program

Jerry Monette, Sheriff of Craven County is offering an Online Gun Permit Program

In an effort to provide better customer service to the citizens of Craven County, Sheriff Jerry Monette is now offering an Online Gun Permit Pistol Purchase Program and Concealed Carry Permit Program.

These programs will streamline the process and reduce the wait time for Craven County citizens. The online program also allows the applicant to keep track of the application process by notifying the applicant via email at different levels of the process. It will also help insure you have all the correct documents you need to bring with you when you come to the Sheriff's Office. Having to make additional trips can be costly. No email? You can still come to the Sheriff's Office and apply on one of our two Kiosks. These sites work just like any online store purchase you have probably already made at your favorite online store.

Purchase Permit;
In order to complete the online purchase program, you must have a valid email address and a credit card. Just as with the former paper applications, the applicant must be 21 years old and have been a resident of Craven County for the last 1 month.

Applications can take up to at least 2 to14 day’s process. The cost is $5 per permit along with a $3 service charge from the software vendor.

Once the permit application has been applied for online, the applicant must come to the Craven County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) and provide a valid NC driver's license / NC ID with correct address, or military ID with proof of residency in Craven County. Only official government forms of identification will be accepted. If you’re license has been recently renewed and the issue date is not over 30 days or you are using a Military Id you will need to bring some other proof of residency, such as a cable, phone, or medical bill, a lease agreement… Also at this time you need to sign the mental health courts record check form.

Once we receive the mental health court record check back from the clerk of court, we will be able to notify you if the permit request was approved or denied. If approved you can come to CCSO with your valid Id and pick up your permit.

Concealed Carry Permit (CCW);
In order to complete the online CCW program, you must have a valid email address and a credit card. Just as with the former paper applications, the applicant must be 21 years old and have been a resident of Craven County for the least 1 month.

Applications take approximately 90 days to process. The cost is $90 per permit along with a $4 service charge from the software vendor that is paid online.

You can fill out and print the application in the comfort of your own home, if you do not have a printer we can print it here for you. You will then need to come to the Sheriff's Office. There you will be fingerprinted; you will sign, date and have your application notarized.

Once the permit application has been approved, the applicant must return to the CCSO and provide a valid NC driver's license (NCDL) or NC Identification card (NCID) with your correct address, or your military ID. Note: If your NCDL, or NCID do not show you have resided in Craven County for 30 days or more (check the issue date), or you are using a military ID then you will need to provide in addition to the required ID's, proof of residency for longer than 30 days, such as a cable, phone, or medical bill, a lease agreement… Only official government forms of identification will be accepted.

"With the demanding lifestyles of most people, many people prefer electronic transactions because of the convenience," Sheriff Jerry Monette said. "We are hoping that this will be beneficial because customers will able to fill out the application in the comfort of their own home."
