MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round athletic training and sports competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with mental retardation or closely related developmental disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

Special Olympics: Created by the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation, authorized and accredited by Special Olympics, Inc. for the benefit of persons with mental retardation.
