Concentrates on disease prevention and management through environmental controls.  We encourage families to provide Healthy Homes so their children can thrive.  Our two major programs are Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Youth Asthma Management.

 Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention

Through grant funding from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Protection through the NC Children's Environmental Health Branch, we have formed a partnership with adjacent counties.  The Craven-Jones-Pamlico-Lenoir Lead Poisoning Prevention Partnership not only responds to the needs of identified lead-poisoned children, we additionally strive to prevent children from ever being poisoned in the first place!

Referral Program - Identifies the sources of lead in a poisoned child's environment and offers coordinated clinical case management. Click here to visit the US Department for Health and Human Services Center for Disease Control and Prevention's website about lead poisoning prevention http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/lead/lead.htm.

Lead-Safe Housing - Helps homeowners enroll in the North Carolina Preventive Maintenance program. Click here to visit the NC Children's Environmental Health Branch website on lead poisoning prevention http://www.deh.enr.state.nc.us/ehs/Children_Health/index.html.

Lead-Safe Work Practices Classes - Teaches an HUD-approved class to remodelers and re-hab workers. A HUD approved class is required when conducting rehabilitation, remodeling, or maintenance work in housing that was built before 1978 and is federally-funded, owned or receives rental assistance.  Call (252) 636-4936 to reserve a place in the next class! Lead Inspections - Conducts all types of lead inspections, including risk assessments and clearance sampling.  Click here to visit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's website on lead poisoning prevention http://www.epa.gov/opptintr/lead/index.html.

Youth Asthma Management

Through funding from various grants from several sources, including the United Way of Coastal Carolina, Inc. and the NC Division of Health and Human Services, we address the needs of children with asthma in our community.

The Craven-Pamlico Asthma Coalition - 'Breathing Should Be Easy!' has several programs and projects to help ensure that every child receives quality, consistent care in order to lead productive NO ATTACKS lives. Join our list serve by sending a message to cravenpamlicoasthmacoalition-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Asthma Management Workshops are held the third Wednesday of each month to help families of children learn how to manage their child's asthma.

Craven-Pamlico Asthma Coalition Meetings are generally held quarterly to plan and implement our community out-reach activities.

Free Community Screenings are generally held annually in May.

Asthma Walk & Health Expo is generally held in the fall.
