Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP)

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program or LIEAP begins Thursday, December 1, 2016. Applications will be accepted for households that have a member age 60 and above or disabled person(s) receiving services through the Division of Aging and Adult Services.

Beginning Tuesday, January 3, 2017, provided funds are still available all other household may apply for assistance.

Citizens may come by the Department of Social Services located at 2818 Neuse Blvd in New Bern from 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday to apply for LIEAP.

The mission of the Craven County Department of Social Services is to provide services to enhance the quality of life of the county's most vulnerable citizens. The general services available are outlined below:

Child Welfare Protective Services for Children, Foster Care, Adoption, Crisis Intervention, court-ordered studies.
Adult Services Adult Protective Services, rest home monitoring, group care placements, in-home care.
Public Assistance Medicaid, Food Stamps, Work First Cash Assistance, Energy Assistance, Surplus Food Distributions, and Special Assistance for Home Care.
Work Programs Work First and Food Stamp Employment and Training services for recipients of public assistance.
Day Care Subsidized day care for public assistance recipients and working families with low incomes.
Preventive Services Programs for children and adults who are at-risk of needing protection. Include programs for adolescent parents and at-risk youth.
Senior Services Serving Seniors over 60 with four congregate meal sites, meals on wheels, and health promotion activities.

ePASS Information

On July 1, 2010 the Department of Health and Human Services deployed a new web-based tool called ePASS that allows individuals to screen themselves for Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) benefits. Effective November 22, 2010 Phase II of ePASS will expand to allow completion and printing of a Food and Nutrition Services application. Applicants can apply for FNS benefits by using the ePASS application or completing the DSS-8207.
