Description of East Carolina Behavioral Health Formerly Neuse Center) Board

This is a consolidated multi-county board which determines policy and adopts necessary rules and regulations, subject to the standards of the Commission of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services. The Board reviews and evaluates area needs and programs in mental health, mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance abuse and related fields, and develops jointly with the State Department of Human Resources an annual plan for the effective development, use and control of state and local facilities and resources in a comprehensive manner.

Qualifications: Professional representatives from the field of medicine, psychology, social work, nursing, law or religion; primary consumer or citizens representing individual or organizational interests in the areas of mental illness, developmental disabilities, alcoholism or drug abuse.

Upcoming vacancies: Commissioner only; others are recommended by the Commissioner representative, but appointed by the Neuse Center Board.
